Author’s comment “The Gudang Garam Surya brand has a slightly different taste to Gudang Garam Professional/International. When you first light up this cigarette, you will notice that the clove taste is rather strong compared to the other Gudang Garam variant. The crackle from the cloves burning in the cigarette is louder too as the cloves in this Gudang Garam are not as finely ground. (You can actually see some of the cloves in the cigarette itself.) About halfway through some of the cigarettes, I got a slightly unpleasent after taste, but maybe that’s bad luck. Overall they are good, other than this flavour, I would recommend trying Gudang Garam International even though it’s a bit more expensive.”

    Ever since I had my first kretek I loved their flavor and aroma. Soon after discovering clove cigarettes (kretek) I found the Gundang Garam Surya. Theese have been my favorite kretek for about 10 years. These simply surpass the rest in flavor, smell, smoothness, looks, and the crackle sound while smoking. These leave the sweet clove taste on your lips and somewhat numb your mouth, just as cloves should. I always especially liked the white paper used (much like Djarum Super). I recommend these to anyone who likes kreteks.

    These are definitely my favorite filtered kreteks. They taste so much like unfiltered kreteks that it’s remarkable. These have a very similar taste and smell to Merahs, but they are a bit sweeter. The smoke is fairly smooth, and these are very easy to chain smoke. They always seem to give me a pretty intense buzz. They smell incense-like when smoked, like the Merahs. I love these because of how strong the cloves are, and how pure they taste for having a filter. On an unrelated note, I was a little taken back by how large the packs are. These cigs are a bit longer than regular GG filtered cigs.

    I was a little dissapointed with the Suryas, they failed to live up to the juicy fruit like sweetness of the professionals. They had a bitter underlying tobacco taste that the clove failed to suppress. They were much harsher than I thought on the throat and I ended up butting them halfway and smoking the rest later alot of the time. That being said the service and delivery was phenomenal. Had em in my hand within a week. Just jaw droppingly professionalism.

    As mentioned by DTREE, these can be quite harsh on the throat. However, these firm kreteks can be made milder and smoother to draw by simply rolling the ciggie in your hands until the stick becomes softer and less firm.

    This is what I would recommend for those trying kreteks for the first time.

    As a lover of Kreteks, I think these cigs are on point. Very strong, very potent flavor, and EXTREMELY enjoyable! I always hate to comment on exact flavor since I see it as something subjective to the individual smoker, but one thing that can not be doubted is the Surya 16s status as a true Kretek as far as taste goes. If you’re like me and you want a strong smoke at the end of the day, or a strong smoke to get you up and going with your coffee, these work either way. Strong and full clove flavor, fantastic body, and incredible buzz. Not for everybody, but these 100% do it for me!

    Excellent rich flavor. Strong but very smooth and tasty. First one of the day gives a good buzz and great to end the day with, long drives, burns for 20mins. Crackles and pops like a firecracker, burned a couple holes in my clothes but I can’t stop smoking it. The best cigarettes, must try! Customer service is great too!

    if you are looking for a strong kretek, this one is for you, its like marlboro red of the kretek world. it has some harshness but pretty smooth at the same time. i only wish the smoke had a bit more sweetness. overall a good cigarette.

    These cloves are amazing! Jeff, the customer service rep for the US, is on top of things. The first shipment that was delivered was incorrect (Marlboro Ice Blasts came instead of the cloves?!). Jeff let me keep those and resent my cloves the next day.

    Gudang Garam Surya 16 is pure quality. Rich, full, smooth, and balanced, it has sweetness, spiciness and a flavour that is what I have come to view as the GG flavour. This flavour is present in GG Surya 16, GG Professional and GG Signature Black, presented in different ways and with different accents in each of those cigarettes. GG Surya 16 doesn´t have the very high sweetness of a Signature Black, nor the over-the-top powdered sugar taste of a GG Surya 16 Exclusive, but is still sweet. As soon as I lit my first Surya 16, it was obvious that it is a five-star Gudang Garam. However, the GG flavour doesn´t sit entirely right with me: it is great, but just not the optimum taste for me. GG Surya 16 Exclusive (which doesn´t have that much of the GG taste), Djarum 76 and of course, the one and only Djarum Super, all suit me better. But there is no denying the greatness of this cigarette, and everyone who has ever appreciated a kretek should try Surya 16. If not for Djarum Super and GG Surya 16 Exlusive, this would definitely be the main kretek for me (76 is unfiltered, and so I don´t want that as main). Again, Gudang Garam Surya 16 is a top quality cigarette, and without a doubt, a five-star smoke.

    These have a different aroma than the other kreteks. Personally, I prefer Apache or Djarum Blacks over any Gudang Garam, but still, it’s really nice and flavourful.

    Wonderful, but not the best kreteks I’ve had. When in Brazil, I had a Gudang Garam Professional which was imported from Paraguay. I know Ciggiesworld sells them, but I wanted to try something different this time around. Reading great reviews, I ordered these. They took about 15 days to arrive (N. America), but were delivered two days after my post office receved them because the “address was incomplete”. When I finally got them, they were wrapped inside a tight cardboard box, some plastic wrap, and layer of bubble wrap; Ciggiesworld took extreme care to make sure none of my packs were crushed. Opening the pack, there is a sweet smeel of sugar and cloves, but not as fruity as the Internationals. The pack is subdivided into sections of eight pieces, each bundle wrapped in a beautiful goldern foil bearing the GG logo. Now for the cigarettes. Long, not too thick, nor too long of a filter. Tightly packed and dense. Oddly enough, there were no clove oil stains, but a sweet smell wafted off the body. Taste: as I said, not too sweet. The paper was sweet enough to make me lick my lips, and the cloves provided a spicy kick to the draw. if you’ve never smoked a kretek before, beware, the kick of nicotine is phenominally strong; you should probably be sitting down. Despite pushing nearly 40 of tar, they are sooth and silky on the throat, presumably from the cloves. I like my kreteks ultrasweet, so these were not my all time favourite, but most certainly one of my top 5 smokes ever. They burn for nearly 18 minutes, so don’t make a habit of lighting these up at work, or your boss will have a fit. 8/10. Thank you Ciggiesworld!

    Finally I get Gudang Garam again. And the customs didn´t check it. Perfect. Terima kasha banjak untuk Kretek.

    Since 1992, when I travelled the first time to Indonesia, 4 month in Sumatra, I only smoke Kretek cigarettes. But cause of Corona I couldn´t get them, because there was no shipping to Germany possible.

    Now I am very very very happy to get them again, and I will order nearly every month 10 packs.

    It’s amazing how consistent ciggiesworld is. Fast shipping to CA USA. Cigs were great. I like the suyra more than the surya premium but they were still amazing cigarettes. For daily smokes go with the normal suyra. For the special occasion the premiums are better. Just a bit smoother. Amazing stuff. 5/5 for both.
