Djarum Coklat Extra, Wow, great clove, hints of other subtle spices, very slow smoke, lots of body, wonderful sauce on banded end. Super consistent, tight, hand rolled. Burns very evenly. Got a carton, then another (and more). If you like a full flavored, non-filtered Kretek then you owe it to yourself to try these. Smoke times run around 20 minutes. Ratings: Coklat Extra’s #1, Coklat #2, Djarum 76 #3

I ordered 1 pack of these along with several cartons of other Kreteks thinking that I would just give them a try. I now regret not ordering several cartons. What a great smoke! This is a very complex smoke, with a very unusual flavor. Richer and denser than the 76. Not as spicy. A bit more tobacco balance. My only complaint is the inconsistency of the roll compared to the 76.

Djarum Coklat Extra is a very tasty and bold kretek. Strong, rich, dense tobacco smoke; strong, if slightly “blunt” cloves; and a strong and pretty unusual sweetness that isn´t honeyish nor white sugary, but rather very richly, darkly Muscovado sugary, or even slightly raisin-like. This cigarette reminds me a lot of Mr Brown, only richer, fuller, much sweeter, and much, much higher quality in the tobacco and the cloves.

So, rich, full, sweet, high quality; it is a great cigarette, then. I am only missing some extra spices and complexity in here. And if you are a Djarum 76er like myself, this is more than different enough to serve as a variation if you want a break from the 76, unlike the Djarum Coklat non-Extra, which is too much like a restrained, muted 76.

If you aren´t against unfiltered kreteks, you really should try Djarum Coklat Extra. It does its own thing, is very distinctive, and is a great kretek.

These for me feel like a special occasion cigarette. These take a while to smoke and they are quite heavy tbh. So I only have one or two a day if I want to really enjoy the smoke and savour the taste. This is not the type of cigarette you smoke all day long.
